interesting stuff!! i’ve been single for the last 5 yrs after a 23 yr marriage (that must mean i got married when i was 10 – i can’t be that old!!?!) and in the 5 yrs i’ve been single i haven’t really dated anyone much longer than a month!! i’m okay w that bc i’d much rather be alone than in a bad relationship but i am starting to wonder if my walls are a little high… so thanks for some good info to reflect on!!!

and as far as recent attacks on how u live yr life – sounds like they need to get one!!

Bruce, you have absolutely hit the nail on the head here. I have been married 13 years and have been tempted to leave when the going got tough on more than one occasion. I stayed, and have been glad; it is amazing how when ‘things are bad’ you can feel nothing for your partner and then when you are able to reconnect, how much love you can rediscover and how that can grow if you are prepared to hang in there ie keep giving the 100% even when you don’t feel like it or you only feel criticism. Vulnerability is necessary but scary and has to become a habit for both of you. And sometimes when your partner is not easy to live with and can’t discuss it, you just keep hanging on in there (with that 100%) until you can both talk about it. Yes, it’s hard work, but the joy you can rediscover and the joy in the longevity is more than worth it. Good article Bruce. And thanks for the reminder about committing to give the 100% in good times or bad. It really works.
